Hermitage Multiple Tooth Replacement

For many patients with missing teeth, their first thought about tooth replacement is dentures or possibly a crown and bridge. However, these options only replace the part of a tooth that is visible—the root remains missing. A multiple tooth replacement that is supported by implants, on the other hand, replaces both the roots and crowns of teeth so you have a smile that looks and feels more natural. Dr. Spadafora will be able to offer you advice on your best choice for multiple tooth replacement.

Multiple Tooth Replacement without Dental Implants

Crown and Bridge. For patients needing to replace one, two or three consecutive teeth, a crown and bridge can be an excellent choice. This minimally invasive approach uses crowns attached to teeth on either side of the gap in your smile to support false teeth, or pontics.

Partial dentures. Sometimes missing teeth are not side-by-side. In this case, a partial denture can be the ideal solution. A partial consists of a metal framework to which a gum-colored base and false teeth are attached. This denture is held in place by clips or brackets that inconspicuously fit around remaining teeth.

Full dentures. If you have a full arch of missing teeth then a full denture uses a gum-colored base inset with false teeth to restore your smile. The muscles of your cheeks and tongue, as well as some denture adhesive, hold a full denture in place.

Receiving Dental Implants in Hermitage, PA

If you and Dr. Spadafora decide that an implant supported prosthetic is the right choice for you, then your treatment will require multiple appointments over several months. The first few treatments allow for preparation. If necessary, Dr. Spadafora will extract any damaged or diseased teeth, but healthy teeth remain. We’ll take x-rays and 3D scans of your bite in order to determine where best to place the implants in your jawbone. Dr. Spadafora will also use these images to design your custom dental prosthetic.

The second stage of treatment is oral surgery to place your implants. Each implant is strategically positioned to afford the strongest anchor possible to support a multiple tooth replacement. For the next several months, your gums will be allowed to heal while the implanted posts fuse with the surrounding bone and gum tissue. Once healed, you’ll return to our Hermitage dental practice to have your crown, bridge, partial or full denture permanently secured to the implants.
